Day 120 April 30

With all the talk about swine flu the hand sanitizer is becoming a way of life at school and at home. It's a little scary since we get such a big influx of people to Cordova during this time of the year. Cannery workers and fishermen come from all over the world to our little town. Prayer and hand sanitizer...

Day 119 April 29

Two pictures for today. First of all, we have no fast food places in Cordova. This is as close as we get and it is only open during the spring and summer months. During April Baja Taco opens for about 4 hours a day, but this week it is now open at dinnertime too. We went and had dinner tonight after Josi had her second chickenpox shot. It's always like summer has finally arrived when we can go get something from Bajo Taco after school! It was really nice again today although a little colder than yesterday.
The other picture is of one of the gillnetters waiting to go into the water. Gillnet season opens mid May so now is the time that the population of town increases dramatically and everyone is in a hurry to get ready for fishing. Love this time of the year!

Day 118 April 28

It hit 60 degrees here today! Higher than that on my porch after school. It feels like heaven!

Day 117 April 27

I got my new camera strap today! I first saw one on Petra's blog and decided I wanted to get one. I got it here http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6751142 and the shipping was free and fast!
There are a lot of different choices of fabrics and it is well made. Seems comfortable enough to wear too.

Day 116 April 26

It's finally nice enough that the girls and I have been going on a bike ride everyday for the last 4 days. Josi is confident enough now that we are out in the little bit of traffic we get here. Today it was pretty windy and cold, but we went for a couple miles before calling it good. This picture shows you why I love my bike so much! Absolutely no pain!

Day 115 April 25

Josi bought herself a new bubble wand and bubbles today. What says spring better than bubbles pictures? I couldn't just post one of these!

Day 114 April

The 3rd grade class did a play today based on a story in their reading book. It's called the Great Kapok Tree. They made the sets which I thought turned out beautifully. Josi was one of the narrators. They all did a great job!

Day 113 April 23

Nothing pretty or lovely today, but when I drove past this I knew it had to be the picture of the day. All during the winter the snow plows push the snow over the edge of the hill across from our school and during the winter a mountain of snow forms. This is what is left of the mountain of snow. It has decreased some, but this is what's left that has to melt before I can offically say we are into summer. All of this is snow and dirt and anything else that may have gotten plowed up during the winter. It is not a pretty sight, just part of "break-up" in Alaska!

Make sure you watch the whole thing!

Day 112 April 22

I took the mountain picture early this morning for the Earth mosaic project. Tonight I took pictures while Cadi was writing a letter to her newly found friend Katie who she met on our China trip. I think there is a long-term friendship forming between the two girls who were adopted on the same day.

I also got this picture of Josi today and had to put it into a Layout. She always says, "I love you more." and I reply, "Not possible!"

Day 111 April 21

It seems like it happened almost overnight. It is Spring! No going back! PLEASE! Today it was in the 50's and even though there is still snow on the ground it is rapidly losing the battle. Josi was outside this afternoon on the swingset and let me get a few shots.

Day 110 April 20

Josi was watching Mythbusters tonight. She wasn't interested in photography. She was interested in busting myths about Alaska...

Day 109 April 19

A very lazy, but productive day around out house today. Josi woke up with a fever so we didn't go to church. Neither of the girls got out of their pajamas all day. Cadi started working on her Civil war mobile project at around 7:30 and worked almost all day on it. I got involved during the actual construction of it. She probably put in close to 8 hours on it today, but it's finished! Have to wait and see in the morning how Josi's feeling...

Just playing around this morning...

Got directions on how to do this from this blog.

Day 107 and 108 April 17-18

I didn't get a chance to post last night, but I did take a picture. As I was getting the classroom ready for the day, Cadi noticed some crows outside the window. They were gathering grass for a nest so I decided I could finally take some pictures of signs of spring!
Today I took Cadi and some of her friends "out the road" to a birthday party another girl was having at the Coast Guard barracks for the helicopter base. It was such a nice day Josi and I drove a little farther out. I tried to get some puzzy willows, but I didn't have the right camera with my big lens. So here are the pussy willos and another mountain shot. Notice the snow is finally going away!

Day 106 April 16

Well the kids had already gone to bed tonight and thine I started looking around for something to photograph. Since they were both reading I decided to go take pictures of them nightly bedtime routine. Josi let me snap quite a few before she finally game me the hand! Cadi just pretty much ignored me as I snapped away! Goodnight my sweet girls.

Day 105 April 15

I have finally joined this century and I bought myself an Ipod. Haven't managed to get too much on it yet, but I'm thinking this is going to be a good thing if I can get rid of a lot of the CDs cluttering up my living room! I thought about being conservative and getting a black or silver one, but I love this green color and after a long winter of white and grey, I need some green!

Day 104 April 14

Yes, we did get moresnow during the night, but most on the streets and sidewalks have melted. Here's Bailey aka Wind Barker being the sentry this morning. He loves to to out and watch for anything that may excite himself enough to bark!

Day 103 April 13

Josi was playing with this fan she got the other day. As it spins it has a pattern of lights that light up. Didn't know if it would photgraph or not, but thought I would try it.

Day 102 April 12

I just had to do more than 1 photo today. We got up before 6:00 so we could head out the road for the sunrise service. It's something I have done for over 15 years now and it is one of Cadi's favorite services of the year. We meet at the Forest Service Gazebo that is 12 miles out of town. This morning it was snowing heavily as we drove out, but there were probably about 40 people there. Some years as the sun comes up the geese start honking. There were no sounds from nature today. This year it was just a heavy snowstorm and the only sound came from our singing songs of praise. I know in many places people wear new hats and dresses and pretty shoes for easter services. Here we bundle up and wear our functional hats and boots to keep warm and dry. I don't think God sees our manner of dress. He sees our hearts and our desire to worship him. Later we put on the pretty dresses for Sunday school and our 11 o'clock service, but that is not my favorite service either on Easter. I love the quietness of the morning, the greeting the new day, and being able to think about what it was like for those who went to Christ's tomb and found that He was no longer there. He Is Risen!

Day 101 April 11

We got the Easter eggs colored this morning before Cadi had to go to the G.S. bakesale. It's fun to just turn them loose with the dying responsibilities. I remember when the counter used to be covered with stains and the eggs were pretty much all broken by the time we got finished! Now they are really into experimenting with color.

Hey I've made it 100 days! Tomorrow is a Girl Scout bake sale so I got home from school and got these decorated. Now I need to boil eggs and make some cupcakes for Cadi's birthday party tomorrow.

Day 99 April 9

Tis the season to blow up Peeps in the microwave. Either you get it or you don't get it. I get it. I blow up peeps in the microwave. Josi even said the other day whe I bought this box. "Hey, those are the things you blow up in the microwave!" I know I am probably scarring my children for life. Sorry. Happy Easter! Happy Peeps!

Day 98 April 8

This might seem like another mountain picture, but it's not. This is the shot out my dining room window and I took it at 9:00 pm tonight to show you just how much light we are getting now. It always seems like once April hits the daylight hours multiply so quickly! We had another great day today with warmth to the sun. Hate to say it, but if it would rain hard for 4 days we would get rid of the snow!
