Day 147 May 27
I learned how to make podcasts today in my tech class. It was a lot of fun so I came home a told Cadi we were going to make another one. So in 2.5 hours we made cookies, took pictures, she wrote the script and recorded the podcast while I made dinner, then we got the music, sound effects and the pictures all put on the podcast. The only problem is I don't know if or how to put the podcast here so you just get one picture of the final product!

Day 145 MAy 25
Today was one of those exceptional days that make it so I can't think of ever living anywhere else but Cordova. I got up early and headed to school to finish up the last few things that needed to get done. The girls had softball practice at 10:00 and I was back in time to take them to their practice. As we were driving I asked them if they wanted to go out the road if the weather held. We said a prayer and asked God to keep the weather as it was or "even a little better". I ran home, mowed the grass and by the time they got back from practice it was getting even nicer. We picked up one of Cadi's friends, Chandelle, Aunt Wanda and cousin Penney and we headed "out the road". For you who don't know. Cordova has about 60 miles of roads that head nowhere. The only way to get to our town is by plane or boat. So the term "out the road" is a local term that means heading out the longest road which is 50 miles long. This road takes you out into the Copper River Delta.
We stopped at one of our favorite ponds-One Eyed Pond. When we got there we found two of my preschool students with one of the moms. The girls had fun playing with their black lab who constantly wanted them to throw something for him to retrieve. He was constantly shaking off the water and I was able to get a couple shots of him.
After One Eyed Pond we headed out to the "sand dunes" This area is at the Copper River and it is the huge area where the glacial silt is deposited. Of course we really hadn't planned to go to the sand dunes, but the weather was so nice we couldn't resist. We weren't prepared to get totally muddy, but we brought back quite a bit between our toes and in our pants! There is still quite a lot of snow out there. It's always fun to play in the snow on a hot day!
The delta is alive with life. The flowers are starting to bloom and the swans, ducks, and geese have returned and are nesting all over the Delta. It was such a glorious day! I couldn't choose just one photo. You get all of these!
Day 144 May 24
I took this picture right before I went to bed at 10:30. See how light it still is and how much activity is going on? That's summertime in Alaska. It's hard to go to bed at a reasonable hour when it's still broad daylight. Sticking to a schedule this week because I have a technology class, but then summer vacation officially begins and we won't be following any schedule then!

Day 143 May 23
One of my student's grandmas gave me a very nice end of the year present. Money and a nice card with the note "Go buy yourself something". So I did. I went to the Net Loft (the place I try to stay away from) and I bought myself this new table runner and matching napkins. Don't you think it looks bright and springy? I just love these colors and the fun design. This is something I probably would have talked myself out of but with a gift of cash, hey, I'm going for it!

Day 142 May 22
The gils and I were at school all day today working hard to get things packed up in the preschool room and ready to move before the renovation begins this summer. A good friend of mine gave this to me for my birthday the other day and I have plans to use it tonight! I hear the bathtub calling my name!

Day 141 May 21
Today was the last day of school for kids! We always have a big playday with different activities going on. I manned the bubbles. I had fun trying to catch pictures of the bubbles. This is my favorite since it has the reflection of the school. The next two years we have a major renovation taking place at our school so this might be the last great shot I get of how it looks right now at the end of the 2008-2009 school year. Di I mention THIS WAS THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL?!!!!!
Day 140 May 20
First real game of the season. Cadi had a couple really good hits and Josi connected with the ball! They are both really enjoying their games. I'm enjoying being back in my chosen domain...the snack shack. I would much rather sell hotdogs and Nachos than try to explain to kids how to play a game I don't understand!

Day 139 May 19
Today's photo isn't a photo. It's a scan of an art project Cadi brought home tonight. They took a photograph of each child, cut it in half and then they had to sketch the other half. Unfortunately my scanner didn't get all of the terrific shading she did. The entire class had their's hanging outside their classroom for awhile. I was really impressed with all of them!

Day 138 May 18
A few blossom photos today. Two of the salmonberry blossoms that are already starting to think about opening in the super warm weather we've been having and the other is of the fuchsia I bought myself last week. I couldn't resist it. It looked so healthy and fuchsias remind me of my mom. She was always growing them For some reason having it outside on my deck makes her seem a little closer even though she's been gone now for 8 years.

Day 137 May 17
Today is May 17th and my kids played in the sprinkler! Unheard of in Alaska, but here's the proof. The offical weather report says 63 degrees, but the thermometer on my deck in the shade says 74. I would guess it's someplace between those too. I can't get over this weather. I'm hoping we already paid for it and that we're not going to pay later on...
Day 135 and 136 May 15 and 16
Well, I am going to live! Didn't think so for awhile, but I don't have a fever now and although I still feel like I was hit by a truck, I feel so much better than I did yesterday. Hope the kids dn't get this! The picture for May 15 is the dog that performed at the girl scout variety show. They had their awards ceremony and then some of the girls had some performances. None of the pictures of my kids turn out too well so I'm going with the dog picture.
The 16th was opening day of softball and I got down there to take pictures before the fever hit. It was a beautiful day! By the time they played their softball game, I was in bed, but they both came home excited and telling me what a great time they had!

Day 134 May 14
Day 133 May 13
This is the last week of preschool. We did a camping/summer theme and the weather cooperated so nicely for us. We made binoculars out of painted toilet paper tubes and camo duct tape. They turned out really cute! Then we went on a walk looking for different things with out binoculars. We ended up on main street watching all the boats go out for the first fishing opener. They were pretty darn cute. I will miss the preschoolers next year. Going back to my kindergarten domain as there are more kids signed up for next year so we will have 2 groups again. that will feel pretty good, but I will miss those 3 year old especially! They are so funny.

Day 132 May 12
Today we had the field trip for our Sea week studies at school. The weather was incredible. I actually had to take my coat and sweatshirt off because I was too hot! We had a wonderful time all morning and went back later than we had planned. This afternoon we too the preschoolers on a hike and spent a long time at the park! Come on summer!

Day 131 May 11
Another beautiful day! Already so warm it's hard to concentrate on school! Tonight after we got home from the book carnival, I had to go out and water the plants I bought a couple days ago. I haven't transplanted them yet because there is still a chance of frost, but they looked so pretty I had to get some pictures. The one bush is a salmonberry bush. If I remember I will try to get pictures of the blossoms and the berrys.
